First Grammar Mentone

Your child’s first steps to learning begin at First Grammar Mentone. Our long day care and early education centre provides child care in Mentone that is perfect for families living or commuting through nearby suburbs Cheltenham, Keysborough, Mordialloc and Parkdale.

The centre has easy access from Nepean Hwy and Swanston Street in the city of Kingston and is a short 5 minute walk from the newly revamped Mentone train station. From the moment you step into our child care centre, you’ll be immersed in a world where children are encouraged to learn and explore. Our spacious outdoor environments feature sandpits, vegetable garden, and other exciting play equipment to engage all the senses.

Children are provided the time and space for uninterrupted play as they explore the outdoors to test their limits and develop strength, balance, and self-confidence. Being outside supports children’s overall health and wellbeing.

Our centre has a pet rabbit which the children enjoy spending time with. We also have pet fish, worm farm and a blue tongue lizard.

Our indoor spaces invite exploration with quality resources and learning experiences. Children wonder, create, and test out their ideas as they play with a range of materials in purposeful play spaces. Our team of experienced educators plan play-based learning experiences around children’s interests and learning goals. Literacy and numeracy concepts are embedded in play-based learning, as children engage as architects, storytellers, scientists, artists, and designers.

Extending upon experiences at school and home, our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) After School Care program provides school-aged children with a positive social environment designed for play, leisure and learning.

You won’t need to worry about preparing lunch. Healthy, freshly made meals and snacks are created daily by our in-house cook, catering for all dietary requirements. Shared mealtimes between children and educators strengthen relationships, with opportunities to share stories and experiences, and model healthy eating practices.

Every day is a brand-new adventure at our Mentone early education centre. Your child will have access to a rotating schedule of engaging specialised programs, including sports, yoga, music and little chefs’ program. These fun and engaging programs enhance the daily program.

Educators and children venture out into the local community on excursions to the nearby shops and community walks. We also welcome special guests and community members based on the children's interests. Neighbourhood connections support a sense of community and belonging for children and provide opportunities to develop social and observational skills with different people, places, and environments.

Our team strongly believe in incorporating sustainable practices within our long day care service and have introduced a vegetable garden where the children can harvest fresh produce and include them in our nutritious meals. We also have a worm farm and recycling bins within all rooms and use recycled materials for open ended activities. All lights are also turned off between 12.00pm – 2.00pm to reduce our carbon footprint.

As members of our First Grammar community, we look forward to partnering with you to provide information, support, and high-quality education and care in your child’s formative years.
