Outdoor play and exploration

Children have plenty of space to learn and play outdoors, with a bike track, climbing fort and vegetable garden. These spaces give children opportunities to ride, climb, care for plants and enjoy active outdoor play throughout the day.

Purpose-built indoor learning spaces

Our indoor spaces include interactive whiteboards and natural resources designed to encourage exploration and learning. Children can take part in play-based experiences that invite them to create, investigate and work alongside others.

Long-standing educator team

Our long-standing educators and teachers create a calm, comfortable environment where children feel safe and known. Their consistency helps children build trusting relationships and settle into their daily routines.

Individual Learning Plans for every child

Individual Learning Plans are developed in partnership with families, reflecting each child’s strengths, interests and developmental goals. Educators use these plans to guide learning experiences that suit each child’s needs, routines and progress.

Government-approved Preschool program

Our Government-approved Preschool program is delivered by a Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teacher. Children build school readiness through play-based learning, everyday routines, friendships and growing independence.

Local school connections

Preschool children visit the local primary school regularly as part of their transition-to-school program. These visits help children become more familiar with school environments before they take the next step.

Excursions and special guests

Children and educators enjoy excursions to different local places, bringing learning into the community. The centre also welcomes special guests, including emergency services and kindy farm animals.

Fresh meals and family updates

Children enjoy fresh meals and snacks each day, with menus planned for variety and balance. Families can also stay connected through our family app, with regular photos and updates about routines, learning and centre experiences.

“I focus on creating an environment where children feel confident to explore, express themselves, and develop a love of learning through play-based and intentional teaching.”

I have been working in early childhood education since 2013 and joined First Grammar Cabramatta West in the same year. I was drawn to early learning through my passion for supporting children and making a positive difference in their early years. I value building strong relationships with both children and families, and as a leader, I enjoy guiding my team to create a nurturing, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment.

Throughout my career, I’ve learned that every child is unique and thrives when they feel safe, valued, and supported. Strong relationships are at the heart of learning, which guides my child-centred, responsive approach. I focus on creating an environment where children feel confident to explore, express themselves, and develop a love of learning through play-based and intentional teaching. I’m passionate about supporting children’s resilience, independence, and a strong sense of belonging.

Learning begins at home and is extended in a centre environment through play-based experiences guided by qualified educators. Children build social skills, confidence, and independence while developing important foundations for lifelong learning.

Our team is one of our greatest strengths, with many educators having been part of the centre for over seven years, and some for more than 14 years. This consistency creates a strong sense of stability and belonging for children and families. We work collaboratively and are passionate about building meaningful relationships within our community. We prioritise open communication, take the time to understand each family’s needs, and ensure they feel informed, supported, and involved in their child’s learning. By working together, we create a welcoming community where families feel confident in their child’s care and development.

Our innovative early learning programs

At our early learning centre in Cabramatta West, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children to learn through play, exploration and discovery.

Sustainability

We have a garden patch, worm farm, and recycling items donated from families, allowing us to teach children about sustainability through hands-on experiences. By integrating these activities, we foster a lifelong appreciation for the environment and instill values and habits that contribute to a more sustainable future.

Community engagement

Educators and children venture out into the local community in Cabramatta area on excursions to parks, shops, the aquarium, as well as school readiness visits to local schools. We also welcome special guests and community members to the centre based on the children’s interests.

Social and emotional learning

Children develop a strong sense of identity as they feel safe, secure and supported, building confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self. Through group activities, conversations and play, children learn to interact with others with care, empathy and respect, building positive relationships and friendships.

Music and movement

Our evidence-based Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program is designed to develop fundamental skills that help support children’s self-regulation, memory, and concentration. It is an innovative approach to holistic learning, development and well-being in early childhood.

Age-appropriate early learning

We provide learning experiences tailored to each stage of your child’s development. Our programs are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and designed to support children’s wellbeing, confidence and growing independence.

I toured quite a number of centres before deciding to enrol my eldest child here as it was a stand out. Katie, the Centre Manager is always engaging and accommodating. My child (that currently attends) has food allergies and Katie is extremely attentive and cautious as to his needs. The educators and in house chef are consistently warm and friendly. They are approachable and always have time for a chat or update on what's happening with my children. They have really made an effort to help each of my kids settle in over the years and feel safe in their new environment. The centre itself is always clean, bright, modern and constantly evolving with things to keep it interesting for the kids. A highlight is their family inclusive days for special events including Mother's Day, Father's day, Easter and Christmas. These events are fun for everyone and I believe further assists the children in settling in to the environment as their loved ones are able to participate in the center events alongside them. They also have great incursions and excursions through out the year to mix it up for the kids – there are always lots of smiles and fun stories to hear after these experiences. Thank you FG Harrington team for your wonderful care and making the child care experience seamless and stress free.

Frequently asked questions

A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. Click here to book a tour online.

On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.

Enrolling is simple, and our Family Support Team will guide you through each step.

First, find your local centre and book a tour so you can meet the team and explore the learning environment. If the centre is the right fit and a place is available, you’ll receive an enrolment offer for your child. If a place is not currently available in your child’s age group, we can add your child to the waitlist and keep you updated.

To finalise your enrolment, you’ll complete an online enrolment form through a secure link sent by our Family Support Team. You’ll also need to provide key details and documents, including your child’s birth certificate, Medicare details, immunisation history statement and, if eligible, your Child Care Subsidy details.

Before your child’s first day, you may be invited to attend a Stay and Play session. This gives your child time to explore the centre, meet their educators, and start feeling comfortable in their new environment. Once your paperwork is complete, your child is ready to start their early learning journey with us.

Read our step-by-step guide on how to enrol here.

Starting child care is a big milestone, and a little preparation can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.

Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day.

When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Settling in looks different for every child, so we work closely with families to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Learn more about our Settling-in Program.

Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.

For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits and spare socks.

For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits and spare socks.

Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.

It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.

First Grammar uses Xplor Home as our family communication app. It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.

After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.

If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, First Grammar is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.

Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
