First Grammar Bonnyrigg Heights offers long day care and a preschool program for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years, conveniently located for families in Bonnyrigg Heights, Bonnyrigg, Edensor Park and Fairfield.

Outdoor spaces for different ages

Children have room to play and explore in large outdoor spaces with natural features and separate areas for infants and older children. These spaces allow children to move, play and take part in outdoor experiences suited to their age and stage.

Bright, open-plan indoor rooms

Our indoor rooms are bright, welcoming and open-plan, with natural materials and learning opportunities inspired by children’s voices, family input and the local environment. Children can explore, create and take part in play that reflects their interests.

Long-standing multicultural team

Our long-standing, multicultural team brings consistency and care to the centre, with many educators having been with us for more than five years. This helps children build familiar relationships with educators who know them well.

Individual Learning Plans

Individual Learning Plans are developed in partnership with families, reflecting each child’s strengths, interests and developmental goals. Educators use these plans to guide learning across literacy, numeracy, social development and emotional regulation.

Government-approved Preschool program

Our Government-approved Preschool program is led by a Bachelor-qualified teacher. Children build school readiness through play-based learning, including early literacy and numeracy, group learning, self-help skills and confidence with everyday routines.

Cultural events, cooking and language classes

Children celebrate cultural events and take part in cooking and language lessons as part of the weekly program. These experiences help children learn about different cultures, try new skills and feel proud of the community they belong to.

Healthy habits and active play

Children take part in experiences such as Munch and Move that help them build healthy habits, motor skills and confidence for the years ahead. These activities give children regular opportunities to move, practise coordination and learn about wellbeing in age-appropriate ways.

Fresh meals and family updates

Children enjoy fresh meals and snacks each day, with menus planned for variety and balance. Families can also stay connected through our family app, with regular photos and updates about their child’s routines, learning and centre experiences.

  • Diploma of Children’s Services
“When provided with a challenging and stimulating environment, children become confident and capable learners. ”

I began working in the early learning sector in 2008 and joined First Grammar Bonnyrigg Heights in 2020. Growing up, I was inspired by my parents, who worked as teachers and assistant principals, and even engaged with family and community services. Witnessing their positive impact on children’s lives, I aspired to make a similar difference. Being part of each child’s journey is the most rewarding aspect of my job. Throughout my career, I strive to strengthen my connections with both the children and their families.

I have learned that each child is unique and learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to meet individual needs. Throughout my years in early childhood education, I’ve discovered that children learn best through play. When provided with a challenging and stimulating environment, they become confident and capable learners.

We welcome everyone with open arms into our First Grammar family. Our multicultural team reflects our local community, and it’s a place where everyone knows all the children, regardless of the room they are in. We are a close-knit team, creating a family-like atmosphere, and we look forward to bringing you and your family into our fold. We acknowledge that the family is a child’s most important influence and that children benefit most when we work in partnership with families.

I look forward to welcoming you to our Bonnyrigg Heights early education centre.

Our innovative early learning programs

At our early learning centre in Bonnyrigg Heights, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children to learn through play, exploration and discovery.

Sustainability

We have recycling stations available in all rooms and incorporate environmental sustainability into our curriculum each week, fostering eco-friendly practices and awareness among the children. Educators also introduce the interconnected aspects of sustainability, including environmental, social and economic, through concepts like fairness, sharing and community

Social and emotional learning

Children develop a strong sense of identity as they feel safe, secure and supported, building confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self. Through group activities, conversations and play, children learn to interact with others with care, empathy and respect, building positive relationships and friendships.

Exploration and problem solving

Educators introduce open-ended materials and invitations to explore, such as building, measuring and experimenting. Through shared conversations and investigation, children develop curiosity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Music and movement

Our evidence-based Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program is designed to develop fundamental skills that help support children’s self-regulation, memory, and concentration. It is an innovative approach to holistic learning, development and well-being in early childhood.

Age-appropriate early learning

We provide learning experiences tailored to each stage of your child’s development. Our programs are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and designed to support children’s wellbeing, confidence and growing independence.

Inclusive support for every child

At First Grammar Bonnyrigg Heights, we value every child as an individual and strive to create a space where all children feel supported, included and empowered to grow. From enrolment, families are invited to share their goals and insights, which help us tailor a program that reflects each child’s interests, strengths and learning style. Our educators use this information to foster a welcoming environment that encourages exploration and belonging.

We offer inclusive support for children with additional needs and those learning English as an additional language by adapting routines, using visual aids and key word signing, and working closely with families and specialists. These strategies ensure all children can participate meaningfully in the program. By embracing diverse abilities and backgrounds, we help every child build confidence, develop strong relationships and thrive in their own unique way.

See more My son attends First Grammar and I have to applaud the team so much for their constant effort and assistance. When he first started care, I was concerned for so many reasons – first time mum so the guilt of leaving him was real – however Jacinta (centre Director) and the educators really put my mind at ease. He has flourished and learnt so much since being with them. I have noticed his routine is a lot better now and he seems a lot happier. The consistent contact throughout the day through the app allows me to see his progress and his day to day activities. I also appreciate the honesty I receive from them – if an incident happens with my son, they will always call me to ensure that I know what happened and if he’s okay. In his entire care up until now, I’ve only received 2 incident calls (both of which were minor toddler falls). I cannot thank them enough for being so caring and loving towards my son. Best in the west 🙂

Frequently asked questions

A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. Click here to book a tour online.

On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.

Enrolling is simple, and our Family Support Team will guide you through each step.

First, find your local centre and book a tour so you can meet the team and explore the learning environment. If the centre is the right fit and a place is available, you’ll receive an enrolment offer for your child. If a place is not currently available in your child’s age group, we can add your child to the waitlist and keep you updated.

To finalise your enrolment, you’ll complete an online enrolment form through a secure link sent by our Family Support Team. You’ll also need to provide key details and documents, including your child’s birth certificate, Medicare details, immunisation history statement and, if eligible, your Child Care Subsidy details.

Before your child’s first day, you may be invited to attend a Stay and Play session. This gives your child time to explore the centre, meet their educators, and start feeling comfortable in their new environment. Once your paperwork is complete, your child is ready to start their early learning journey with us.

Read our step-by-step guide on how to enrol here.

Starting child care is a big milestone, and a little preparation can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.

Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day.

When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Settling in looks different for every child, so we work closely with families to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Learn more about our Settling-in Program.

Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.

For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits and spare socks.

For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits and spare socks.

Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.

It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.

First Grammar uses Xplor Home as our family communication app. It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.

After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.

If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, First Grammar is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.

Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
