“I see my role as a guide rather than a director, ensuring children are given choices, a voice, and the freedom to take risks and grow.”

I began working in early childhood education in 2002, and after more than 23 years in the sector, I still feel as passionate as I did on my very first day. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of leading teams, mentoring educators, and most importantly, watching countless children grow, thrive, and discover the world around them.

From the beginning, I knew early education was more than just a career; it was a calling. I was inspired by the opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and families, creating strong foundations for learning, confidence, and curiosity. What I love most is seeing the joy on children’s faces when they achieve something new, and knowing that the environments we create are places where they feel safe, valued, and excited to learn.

Over the years, children have taught me that no two individuals are the same. Each child has their own personality, learning style, and interests, and I believe these differences should be celebrated. This has shaped my teaching philosophy: I focus on creating flexible, engaging, and responsive environments that allow children to explore at their own pace. I see my role as a guide rather than a director, ensuring children are given choices, a voice, and the freedom to take risks and grow.

For me, early education isn’t just about preparing children for school – it’s about preparing them for life. I want every child to leave our centre with confidence in themselves, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning. By sparking curiosity, celebrating individuality, and fostering strong relationships, I aim to give children the tools they need to flourish well beyond their early years.

When speaking with families, I often explain that while learning at home is so important, our centre provides unique opportunities that complement and expand on this. Children benefit from social interactions with peers, planned learning experiences guided by qualified educators, and thoughtfully designed environments that inspire exploration and creativity. Our programs are aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework, ensuring every child’s development is supported holistically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. This balance of structured learning, play, and social connection is something families consistently value.

I am incredibly proud of the team here at First Grammar Gumnut Drive. We are a close-knit group of passionate and dedicated educators who genuinely love what we do. Many of our team members have been with the centre for years, which brings stability, consistency, and long-standing relationships with families. Being a boutique centre means we know every child and family personally, and we take pride in creating an environment that feels like an extension of home. Families often tell us they feel the warmth and care the moment they walk through the door, and that is a reflection of the commitment and heart my team brings every single day.

Supporting families is at the centre of my role as well. I make sure I am approachable, available, and always ready to listen. Whether it’s celebrating milestones, sharing updates, or simply being there when families need guidance or reassurance, I strive to create strong partnerships built on trust and open communication. I believe that when families and educators work together, children benefit most – and that’s what drives me every day.

I look forward to welcoming your family to our early education community in Langwarrin.

“I strongly believe in the power of play-based learning, where children engage in social interactions, explore through trial and error, and build confidence with the guidance of educators. “

I hold a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education from Deakin University and a Master of Professional Accounting from Central Queensland University. I am a registered teacher with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and have been working in the early childhood education sector since 2015.

My philosophy in early childhood education follows a holistic approach, ensuring that children’s learning and development are interconnected and supported across all domains. I strongly believe in the power of play-based learning, where children engage in social interactions, explore through trial and error, and build confidence with the guidance of educators.

I see each child as a unique individual, with their own interests, strengths, and pace of development. My goal is to create an environment where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to grow, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

Our Langwarrin Kindergarten’s Philosophy

At our Langwarrin Kindergarten, our philosophy centres around building everlasting partnerships with families to support every child in reaching their fullest potential. Our core beliefs include:

  • Inclusivity and cultural respect – We celebrate the diversity of our families and encourage children to learn from one another’s backgrounds, beliefs, and traditions.
  • The environment as the third teacher – Our open and engaging learning spaces are thoughtfully designed to encourage exploration, creativity, and problem-solving.
  • Learning through play – We understand that children learn best when actively engaged. By offering hands-on experiences in play-based settings, we help children develop critical thinking and a lifelong love for learning, to better prepare them for school and beyond.

What your child will learn in our Langwarrin Kindergarten

At our kindergarten in Langwarrin, our curriculum is designed to meet each child’s unique developmental needs while promoting safety, well-being, autonomy, and a sense of belonging. Our key learning goals include:

School readiness

Our educators integrate foundational academic concepts into play-based activities, ensuring that children gain early literacy, numeracy, and social skills in a joyful and relevant context. This supports a confident and smooth transition to school and beyond.

Critical thinking skills

Through engaging learning experiences, we nurture a sense of wonder and inquiry. Children are supported to ask questions, share their thoughts, and explore their environment in meaningful ways. These experiences build their ability to think critically and solve problems creatively.

Self-confidence and identity

We create opportunities for children to express themselves, recognise their strengths, and build a sense of pride in who they are. Through affirming routines and positive reinforcement, children develop a confident self-image and a feeling of belonging within our community.

Empathy and inclusion

Our teachers and educators model empathy and guide children through inclusive, respectful interactions. We promote an understanding of different cultures, values, and ways of life, encouraging children to see the world through multiple lenses and form healthy, respectful relationships.

Community and local school relationships

At our Langwarrin Kindergarten, we deeply value our connections with the local Langwarrin community. These partnerships include:

  • THRIVE Early Learning Centre program: Collaborating for shared incursions and excursions with our local primary schools that enhance learning through real-world experiences.
  • Kindergarten Information Evenings: We invite prep teachers to share their insights on school readiness, offering families valuable guidance on how to best prepare their child for the move to primary school.
  • School transition statements: Our Early Childhood Teachers prepare detailed Transition Statements for each child, outlining their strengths, interests, and learning progress. These statements are shared with families and schools to support a seamless transition into Prep.
  • Langwarrin Aged Care: Our intergenerational partnership brings our kindergarten children and aged care residents together, building empathy, compassion, and a sense of community. Visits happen every alternate week, fostering meaningful connections.

These relationships support children’s social development, sense of place, and readiness for the next stage of their education journey.

Frequently asked questions

In Australia, sessional kindergartens or preschools are usually operated by local government, religious organisations, schools, private organisations or the community. They usually run during school term and school hours, meaning the program runs for 40 weeks per year, with most sessions finishing up around 2 pm, over 2-3 days per week.

The kindergarten or preschool program is also offered in long day care centres. Most long day care centres are open from 7:00 AM. to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday with flexible drop-off/pick-up times to better accommodate busy working families. Long day care centres run 52 weeks per year, meaning your child would not miss out on valuable learning opportunities during school holidays.

Nutritional meals and snacks are covered in long day care centres, so you don’t have to worry about packing lunches.

Child Care Subsidy still applies when your child attends the kindergarten or preschool programs offered in long day care services. Depending on your state or territory, different funding options can be combined with your Child Care Subsidy savings, making kindergarten or preschool more affordable for your family.

Essentially, there is no difference between the curriculums adopted by long day care and sessional kindergarten or preschool providers. They are both run by qualified early childhood teachers, and they all align with Early Years Learning Framework, focusing on supporting individual children’s development, interests and needs through play-based and intentional learning experiences.

If your child is already settled at a long day care centre, they have the opportunity to stay in a familiar environment, transitioning together with their friends.

To receive the Best Start, Best Life Kinder subsidy, your child needs to turn 4 years on or before 30th April 2024 and enrolled in a funded Kindergarten program in 2024. All our kindergarten programs run every day of the week. This means families have the flexibility for their child/ren to receive the highest quality learning experiences on days that best support them.

The benefit of attending a G8 Education long day care centre is our enhanced learning program combines play-based long daycare programming plus the government approved Best Start, Best Life Kindergarten program. Our program runs 5 days a week for 52 weeks of the year. During the period where the government funded kindergarten does not apply, your CCS will reduce your out of pocket expense.

The Victorian Government will subsidise 15 hours per week over, 600 hours per year which can be applied over 52 weeks (minimum 2 days per week). As a long day care provider, we offer a 5 day per week program and your child can attend more than 2 days per week. If you are eligible for the Childcare Subsidy (CCS), the CCS will apply on these additional days and reduce your out-of-pocket costs. Attending 2 days or more supports your child’s learning, development and wellbeing to experience a successful school transition as a more confident and engaged learner.

No, you can only access funding at one centre for 15 hours a week, which can be applied over 52 weeks.

This is an additional subsidy from the Victorian Government that will apply to a portion of your fees after the Childcare Subsidy is applied. The percentage of CCS your family is entitled to for non-funded Kindergarten program hours will not change.

We have good news for families who are not eligible for CCS.

The VIC Government will subsidise the 15 hours per week of free Kindergarten, which can be applied across 52 weeks. Outside of these subsidised hours, full fees will be applied.
