Our innovative early learning programs

At our early learning centre in Epping, our experienced educators and teachers continually seek innovative ways to enrich your child’s education. Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, our approach supports children in building a strong sense of identity, developing emotional and social skills, and gaining confidence as active participants in their own learning journey. We offer a variety of engaging and diverse learning experiences, including:

Sustainability

We open your child’s mind to the outdoors, raising their awareness of the environment and the importance of their role in protecting it. By engaging them in hands-on activities, we foster a sense of responsibility and appreciation for nature.

Inclusion

Our Epping child care centre reflects the rich cultural diversity of our community, with many families speaking other languages such as Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Mandarin, and Greek at home. We embrace and celebrate this diversity by incorporating cultural traditions, multilingual resources, and opportunities for children to share their heritage.

STEM

We encourage your child to ask questions, experiment, and problem-solve, all while engaging their natural curiosity. By fostering this inquisitive mindset, we help them develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Music and movement

Our evidence-based Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program is designed to develop fundamental skills that help support children’s self-regulation, memory, and concentration. It is an innovative approach to holistic learning, development and well-being in early childhood.

Nursery

Our Nursery provides a calm, nurturing environment where our youngest children feel safe, loved, and supported. Educators form strong, trusting bonds with each baby through responsive and attentive care, building the foundation for healthy emotional development. We gently support early milestones with sensory-rich experiences, soothing music, tummy time, and interactive play that promote communication, fine and gross motor skills, and curiosity. Daily routines are flexible and personalised to mirror each child’s rhythms at home, helping babies feel secure, understood, and confident in their surroundings.

Toddlers

Toddlers are active explorers, and our rooms are thoughtfully set up to foster independence and confidence at every step. We support children as they build self-help skills like feeding themselves, dressing, and toileting, all while encouraging their growing self-identity. Language development flourishes through storytelling, song, conversation, and imaginative play, while social and emotional skills are nurtured through guided group play, shared routines, and positive behaviour modelling. We help toddlers navigate big emotions, build friendships, and express themselves in a supportive, engaging environment.

Pre-kinder

Our Junior Kinder/Pre-Kinder program is designed to nurture children’s natural curiosity and creativity. Through open-ended play and hands-on learning, children are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and explore new ideas. Activities include early numeracy and literacy games, dramatic play, nature-based experiences, and art-making, all tailored to their developmental stage and interests. As they become more confident learners, children are supported in making choices, collaborating with peers, and taking increasing responsibility for their environment, thereby building a strong foundation for their kindergarten year.

Kinder

Our Kindergarten program empowers children with the skills, confidence, and mindset needed for a successful transition to school. We focus on strengthening self-regulation, independence, and early academic foundations through a balance of child-led and intentional teaching experiences. Educators support pre-reading and writing, numeracy, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while also promoting group collaboration and confident communication. Projects around sustainability, culture, and community give children real-world context for their learning and help build awareness and empathy. Through inquiry-based learning and a strong focus on wellbeing, we nurture capable, resilient, and enthusiastic learners.

Inclusive support for every child

At our Epping child care centre, we recognise that every child learns differently, and we tailor our program to reflect each child’s unique interests, strengths, and stage of development. Educators use intentional teaching and a combination of small-group and one-on-one experiences to support diverse learning styles and help children progress at their own pace. Learning goals are informed by regular observations, family input, and developmental milestones, and are documented through portfolios and digital updates to keep families involved. We embed cultural responsiveness into our curriculum, ensuring that each child’s identity and background are acknowledged and celebrated.

We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where all children feel seen, safe, and valued. For children with additional needs, we collaborate with families and allied health professionals to develop individualised learning plans and implement targeted strategies that enable every child to participate fully. Our environments are flexible and adaptive, providing the right level of support while encouraging independence. For children learning English as an additional language, we use visual aids, gestures, and consistent routines to build understanding and confidence. We also honour each child’s cultural heritage by incorporating their home language and traditions into the curriculum, fostering a strong sense of belonging.

Frequently asked questions

A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. Click here to book a tour online.

On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.

Our Family Support Team will add your child’s name to our waitlist if one of our childcare centres is currently full in your child’s age group. We will then contact you as soon as a place becomes available.

We also do monthly check-ins to review availability, and you will receive a text message confirming whether you’re still happy to remain on the waitlist each month. If you would like an update at any point, you’re welcome to reach out on our Web Chat or give us a call.

Our Family Support Team can also help you find more G8 early learning centres near you, with the same offerings at the First Grammar centre you are interested in that have immediate availability.

It’s common for a child to experience separation anxiety when they first start child care. When you’re getting ready to start child care, you can help your child overcome anxieties by visiting the child care service together for a Stay and Play session, and easing into new routines at home.

Read more tips about how to make the transition easier for your child.

Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.

For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits and spare socks.

For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits and spare socks.

Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.

It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.

First Grammar uses Xplor Home as our family communication app. It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.

After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.

If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, First Grammar is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.

Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
