I have been working in early childhood education since 2002 and joined the First Grammar Epping team in 2024. I bring many years of experience supporting children, families and educators in early learning environments. I chose this career because I am passionate about supporting children during their early years and helping them grow in confidence, curiosity and independence. What I enjoy most is building meaningful relationships with children, families and educators, and watching children learn, explore and reach new milestones each day. My approach focuses on creating a supportive and welcoming environment where children feel safe and encouraged to explore the world around them. I am passionate about helping each child build confidence, curiosity and a love of learning while supporting their individual strengths and interests. When speaking with families, I explain that while children learn many valuable skills at home, early childhood education and care centres provide additional opportunities for social interaction, structured learning experiences and guidance from qualified educators. Through play and group activities, children develop important skills such as communication, teamwork, independence and problem solving, helping support their overall development. Our team consists of 18 passionate and dedicated educators who bring a wealth of experience and creativity to our centre. So many of the staff have been there since we first started, which says so much about the centre and has helped our kids build such beautiful relationships with both their educators and friends. I feel that is rare and a lot of centres you come across have high turnover but we have had the same ones almost the whole time, who have been there for many many years!! It’s one of the main reasons I chose the centre in the first place! Mel is amazing and is always there to help or have a chat if you need anything. The whole centre feels like a little community and you never feel like just a number. Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day. When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them. For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits and spare socks. For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits and spare socks. Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, First Grammar is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children. Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year.
