Teagan Smith

Centre Manager - First Grammar Bendigo

“It takes a village to raise a child.”

My name is Teagan and I have been in the Early Childhood sector since 2013. I have a Diploma of Children’s Service and am currently working towards my Bachelor of Education.
I have always loved children. I love watching children grow and develop new skills, and knowing I am a part of that journey, makes the job so rewarding.

In my 10 years of working in early childhood education I have learnt that each child is unique and learn in different ways. It has helped me to refine my teaching style, ensuring I am catering to each child individually, but at the same time, ensuring quality care that is both safe and nurturing, and encourages children to be inquisitive and confident.

I believe that children thrive more when they have a secure relationship with the people in their lives. I make sure that I have that relationship with the children and their families as it takes a team to be able to teach and help a child reach their full potential.

An Early Childhood Education setting provides more choice and more opportunities for a child to be inquisitive and develop and grow essential skills needed for success. I am a big advocate for social learning and children developing key social skills throughout their early years.

The team at First Grammar are a passionate and enthusiastic team. There is a wealth of knowledge between all educators and all together want what's best for the children in their care. They are always striving to ensure that children feel safe and secure and are happy and content here at the service.

I find myself to be very approachable with families. I am always available for a chat if needed and find it helps if I learn as much as I can about the family, to enable a positive relationship. I am also very honest with families, I don't see the point in tiptoeing around something, and find I have developed more trusting relationships because of this.
