Centre Manager - First Grammar Bankstown
"I was inspired to work in early childhood because I believe it is a privilege to be a part of a child’s journey."
To be so close to watch a child grow, learn and develop is one of the most precious opportunities parents give to me. Making a difference in their lives has always been something I have wanted to do. Watching them grow into their own beings and their own selves before graduating and leaving us for their next journey amazing. I am honoured to be part of it and to see them on their way for the next chapter!
Hi, my name is Sara and I am the centre manager here at Bankstown’s First Grammar Child Care Centre. A position I’ve held since 2018.
I’ve literally done it all when it comes to working in child care. I started as a trainee in 2009 and gradually worked my way up from an assistant educator, lead educator, educational leader, certified supervisor, Assistant Manager/2ic and moved along to Centre Manager. I have extensive knowledge and experience in the early childhood industry, and am so excited to be able to utilise these learnings here at First Grammar Bankstown.
Among them, I have learnt that each child grows at their own pace and each child has their own way of processing and implementing things they learn. I introduce this to all my rooms and the service as a whole and educate the educators to approach each child with individuality and not be broad or general when dealing with each child.
As a mother myself, I have a passion for working with children and a genuine desire to help them achieve their milestones and guide them throughout their early year’s journey. I was inspired to work in early childhood because I believe it is a privilege to be a part of a child’s journey and be there to assist them and guide them and nurture them every day.
I thoroughly enjoy working alongside a great team who continue to strive for a better centre every day. We have our own goals for the service as a whole as well as each of us individually. My team is established and is mixed with great leaders and great educators. Each is enthusiastic and adamant to make an impression on each child’s journey with us at FG Bankstown as well as work alongside each family to achieve their goals for their child.
We compare our team to puzzle – We are a mix of ethnicities and religions however we all work so well with one another and fit in with one another. Each staff member is a valuable part of the team and without them we cannot complete the puzzle.
I believe that children should be prepared for going to school not just a year before they should be going in order to help them achieve the best possible transition into one of the biggest journey’s they will have in life. I explain to parents the cognitive, social and emotional positives of attending early learning. I believe that children should be attending early learning from a younger age to help build their social skills, independence and confidence.
We are well aware that the whole process of starting at a new centre can create confusion and anxiety for families. So we do everything to make it as comfortable and streamlined for the entire family when they connect with us.
During and after centre tours, I always ask parents to ask me any questions or stop me if they have any questions along the way. After this process I assist them with CCS applications if they require support and also through completing the enrolment form and enrolment onboarding process. I understand that this can be overwhelming and that’s why me and my amazing team are here for you from the beginning right to the very end.
I am a firm believer that open communication and transparency is key and this is relayed to my families on their tours. Parents and families are reassured that they can openly discuss ay worries or issues with me and the team and that is the best way to ensure that we achieve the best possible outcome and learning journey for each child and each family.
