First Grammar Merrylands offers long day care and a preschool program for children aged 12 months to 6 years, conveniently located for families in Merrylands, Merrylands West, Woodpark, South Wentworthville and Parramatta.

All-weather outdoor play

Our shaded outdoor environment gives children space to play outside during rain or hot days. Children can explore a herb garden, a large sandpit for sensory play, construction spaces, interest tables, quiet corners, and areas for creative and dramatic play.

Large indoor learning space

Inside, children have access to a large indoor space with age-appropriate resources that encourage exploration and engagement. The room gives children space to play, create, work with others and enjoy quieter moments during the day.

Long-standing educator team

Our long-standing educators and teachers create a calm, comfortable environment where each child feels safe and known. Their consistency helps children build familiar relationships and settle into their daily routines.

Individual Learning Plans

Individual Learning Plans are developed in partnership with families, reflecting each child’s strengths, interests and developmental goals. Educators use these plans to guide learning experiences that suit each child’s needs, routines and progress.

Government-approved Preschool program

Our Government-approved Preschool program is delivered by a Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teacher. Children build school readiness through play, routines, friendships, growing independence and everyday learning experiences.

Sports and language program

Preschool children take part in a sports program that introduces the fundamentals of different sports in a safe and engaging way. They also enjoy Arabic classes through our ELLA language program.

Community visits and health checks

Children regularly welcome community visitors, including firefighters, dental checks and eye checks. These visits bring practical learning into the centre and help children learn more about health, safety and the people in their community.

Fresh meals and app updates

Children enjoy fresh meals and snacks each day, with menus planned for variety and balance. Families can also stay connected through our family app, with regular photos and updates about routines, learning and centre experiences.

“I prioritise building positive relationships with children and fostering a sense of security and trust.”

I began my career in early learning in 2015 and joined First Grammar Merrylands in 2020. Working in early education has been deeply fulfilling for me. I love witnessing children’s growth and progress, fostering a nurturing environment where they feel safe and encouraged to explore and express themselves. Building strong relationships with children and their families allows me to support their holistic development.

Throughout my career, I’ve learned that each child is unique, with individual strengths and learning styles. This understanding guides my adaptable teaching style, emphasising hands-on experiences and play. I prioritise building positive relationships with children and fostering a sense of security and trust. Recognising and celebrating diversity is crucial in promoting a sense of belonging and positive self-identity.

Our First Grammar Merrylands team holds relevant qualifications and stays updated with the latest research and best practices. Our diverse team brings a rich tapestry of experiences, languages, and perspectives, genuinely caring about each child’s growth and development.

We ensure open and transparent communication with families by providing regular updates on children’s progress and daily activities. We foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, encouraging active family involvement through events, workshops, and meetings. We respect and celebrate diverse backgrounds by incorporating cultural diversity into our curriculum and activities. We value families’ input in decision-making and offer resources and support to help them navigate parenting challenges. Our approach is individualised, adapting to meet each family’s unique needs and circumstances.

I look forward to welcoming your family to First Grammar Merrylands early education centre.

Our innovative early learning programs

At our early learning centre in Merrylands, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children to learn through play, exploration and discovery.

Sustainability

We promote sustainable practices by educating and collaborating with children, families, and the wider community. We use recyclable materials whenever possible and encourage children to recycle paper and rubbish within their rooms.

Social and emotional learning

Children develop a strong sense of identity as they feel safe, secure and supported, building confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self. Through group activities, conversations and play, children learn to interact with others with care, empathy and respect, building positive relationships and friendships.

Music and movement

Our evidence-based Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program is designed to develop fundamental skills that help support children’s self-regulation, memory, and concentration. It is an innovative approach to holistic learning, development and well-being in early childhood.

Exploration and problem solving

Educators introduce open-ended materials and invitations to explore, such as building, measuring and experimenting. Through shared conversations and investigation, children develop curiosity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Age-appropriate early learning

We provide learning experiences tailored to each stage of your child’s development. Our programs are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and designed to support children’s wellbeing, confidence and growing independence.

See more My child has been attending this childcare from the age of 3 to 5, moving from the toddler room to the preschool room, and has had a wonderful experience. All the educators are kind, patient, and friendly. They have supported his learning and development so well, and he has learned so much during his time here. We have seen him grow into a more confident, outgoing, and happy child. He has made many good friends here and always looks forward to going to childcare every day. At home, he often tells me about what happens at school and happily to share with us. He hugs friends every day when arriving at and leaving childcare, which shows how happy and comfortable they feel here. We are truly grateful for all the care and support from the team, especially Priya, Sarah, Saru, Ruchita and Jerina. Thank you for everything you have done for my son.❤️

The staff are incredibly organised, very caring and always show great concern for your child. My son has thoroughly enjoyed his time here and has learnt so much along the way. Ms. Agata and Ms. Harshita must be commended for their wonderful work in the nursery. Your child will be taken very good of by all the educators and you will have no need to worry about their time spent at First Grammar. We especially appreciated being informed via the centre app on every aspect with regard to the care being given to our son, from constant updates on nappy changes to what and how much he has eaten throughout the day. A highlight of our day is reading the Daily Snapshot from his room, which includes a detailed description of all the activities conducted during the day along with photos of the children enjoying themselves. Without a doubt we would recommend this centre to anyone looking to put their child into daycare.

Frequently asked questions

A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. Click here to book a tour online.

On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.

Enrolling is simple, and our Family Support Team will guide you through each step.

First, find your local centre and book a tour so you can meet the team and explore the learning environment. If the centre is the right fit and a place is available, you’ll receive an enrolment offer for your child. If a place is not currently available in your child’s age group, we can add your child to the waitlist and keep you updated.

To finalise your enrolment, you’ll complete an online enrolment form through a secure link sent by our Family Support Team. You’ll also need to provide key details and documents, including your child’s birth certificate, Medicare details, immunisation history statement and, if eligible, your Child Care Subsidy details.

Before your child’s first day, you may be invited to attend a Stay and Play session. This gives your child time to explore the centre, meet their educators, and start feeling comfortable in their new environment. Once your paperwork is complete, your child is ready to start their early learning journey with us.

Read our step-by-step guide on how to enrol here.

Starting child care is a big milestone, and a little preparation can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.

Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day.

When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Settling in looks different for every child, so we work closely with families to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Learn more about our Settling-in Program.

Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.

For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits and spare socks.

For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits and spare socks.

Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.

It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.

First Grammar uses Xplor Home as our family communication app. It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.

After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.

If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, First Grammar is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.

Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
